This photo captures five Black women from the Midwest, bound together by a loss no parent should ever have to endure. Each of us has lost a child to suicide, and through that shared grief, we found one another. What began as pain became connection, and connection became community. Our support group, We Are One, is a sacred space where we hold each other up, speak our children’s names, and remind one another that healing does not have to happen alone.

Out of that love and solidarity came the 2026 Soul Survivors of Chicago Calendar. Each month honors our children and carries a message rooted in hope, remembrance, and the urgent need to break the stigma surrounding mental health and suicide prevention in our communities. This calendar is more than dates on a page. It is a call to speak openly, to listen deeply, and to save lives by normalizing conversations that have been silenced for far too long.
