Some days, the math just doesn’t math. My tank is low, the prices are high, and the weight of life feels even heavier than the cost of gas. But even in those moments — especially in those moments — I find us choosing to show up anyway.
Showing up doesn’t always look like perfection. It doesn’t always look like having everything together. For me, sometimes showing up is simply being present with what have, where you are, and with the strength you can gather for that day.
For many of us doing community work, advocacy, and healing, the journey is rarely convenient. We stretch our resources, our time, and our hearts. We pour into others even when our own cup feels light. And yet, we keep showing up because the work matters. Our people matter. The mission matters.
“I can’t afford the gas” is real — but so is the commitment to keep moving forward. To keep serving. To keep loving our communities through the hard days. To keep honoring the memories of those we’ve lost and lifting up those who are still here fighting to survive.
Showing up is an act of resistance. Showing up is an act of love. Showing up is an act of hope.
And even when the tank is low, the purpose is full.
